Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers before the start.

Practical information for drivers preparing for their first PMC Autocross event.

01What is autocross?

Autocross is a timed driving event on a temporary cone-marked Course built on a large paved parking lot or asphalt area. You drive your own car, one vehicle at a time, and try to complete each run quickly and cleanly. PMC Event Staff assigned to Corner Stations observe the Course and record displaced cones; each penalized cone adds two seconds to the elapsed time.

02Can I use my own car?

Yes. Most eligible daily drivers and performance cars can participate if they meet the event requirements and pass Tech Inspection. A special race car is not required.

03Do I need previous racing experience?

No. Beginners are welcome, and PMC provides a Course Walk, mandatory Driver Meeting, Safety Briefing and access to experienced instructors.

04Do I need a racing license?

No racing license is required. Drivers must be age 18 or older and hold a valid driver license.

05Is autocross wheel-to-wheel racing?

No. Cars are released separately. You race against the clock, not against another car beside you.

06Is my car eligible?

Many street cars are eligible. PMC will help confirm vehicle eligibility and class before the event.

07Do I need a helmet?

Yes. Every driver and passenger needs an approved, properly fitted helmet. See the Helmet Requirements page for the accepted standards.

08What should I bring?

Bring your driver license, approved helmet, water, closed-toe shoes and basic sun protection. Remove loose items from your car before inspection.

09What happens during my first event?

You check in, sign the required Waiver, complete Tech Inspection, attend the Course Walk, mandatory Driver Meeting and Safety Briefing, and meet your instructor if needed. When called, you report to Grid, proceed to the Start Line for your timed run, cross the Finish Line, and return to the Paddock as directed by PMC officials.

10Do drivers have to work Corner Stations?

No. No Corner Work Required for Drivers. PMC assigns approved Event Staff to Corner Stations and other required event roles separately.

11Do I need a PMC membership?

No. Membership is not required for standard event registration.

12How much does an event cost?

Standard driver entry is $85, plus a $3 processing fee per transaction. Approved Event Staff or volunteers who apply in advance and receive an official PMC assignment receive $25 off event entry.

13How do Season Results and Driver Standings work?

PMC Solo Event points are recorded by class under the published scoring rules and build the Season Standings. Year-end awards are presented in every class.

14How will PMC track each driver's results?

Each participant will have one official driver record. After every confirmed event, PMC will attach verified Class Results to that record and update the Season Standings.

15Is my car already officially registered with PMC?

Not through this website yet. The official Driver Portal and Vehicle Garage are still in development, and the current public site does not store participant or vehicle records. A vehicle entered in an earlier demonstration is not an official PMC registration unless PMC confirms it directly.

16Who can receive the $25 Event Staff discount?

Only Event Staff or volunteers who apply in advance and are officially assigned and approved by PMC for a required role at that specific event. Applying or helping without a confirmed assignment does not create a discount or credit.

17Can I receive a discount by helping at an event?

Only after an advance application, official PMC assignment and approval. The discount is $25 off the standard event entry; it is not a separate registration option.

18What is a PMC Practice & Tune Day?

PMC Practice & Tune Day is designed for learning, instructor guidance, vehicle setup and meaningful seat time in a low-pressure format.

19How do PMC Solo Events work?

PMC Solo Events use official Timing and published Class Results. Season Results and Driver Standings are updated from eligible results under the published rules.

20Can a beginner participate?

Yes. No racing experience is needed. PMC provides clear pre-event guidance, a Course Walk, mandatory Driver Meeting, Safety Briefing, Tech Inspection and access to experienced instructors.

21Is autocross safe for a first-time driver?

PMC uses a controlled, closed Course with one vehicle released at a time. Every driver completes Tech Inspection and attends the Course Walk, Driver Meeting and Safety Briefing before driving. Safety always takes priority over run count or competition.

22What happens if a participant behaves unsafely or damages property?

PMC may immediately stop the participant's runs, disqualify or remove the participant, cancel the registration, require the person to leave the venue, and deny future participation. This includes intentional drifting, burnouts, donuts, reckless or aggressive driving, abusive or threatening behavior, ignoring officials, or damaging venue, PMC, or third-party property. A conduct-related removal receives no refund, credit, or transfer, and the participant may be held responsible for damage caused.

23Can autocross help a newly licensed driver?

For licensed drivers age 18 or older, repeated controlled runs can build car-control awareness, smoother inputs and confidence in understanding how a vehicle responds. Autocross complements—but does not replace—licensed driver education or professional emergency-response training.

24What are the basic driver requirements?

PMC events are currently planned for licensed drivers age 18 or older. The vehicle must pass Tech Inspection, the driver must sign the official event Waiver, and an approved helmet is required.

25What helmets does PMC accept?

PMC accepts Snell SA2020, Snell M2020 or newer, and qualifying FIA 8859-2015 or FIA 8860-2010 helmets or newer. Snell SA2015 and M2015 are accepted only through December 31, 2026. DOT-only and ECE-only helmets are not permitted. Every helmet is subject to PMC Tech Inspection.

26When does registration open?

Registration opens only after the event, venue agreement, insurance and administrative requirements are fully confirmed. The official registration notice will provide all event-specific instructions.

27What happens if I cancel my registration?

All registration fees are non-refundable. With at least 24 hours’ written notice, your registration may be transferred one time only to the next scheduled eligible PMC event. Late cancellations and no-shows receive no refund, credit or transfer.

28What happens if PMC postpones an event?

Your registration automatically transfers to the rescheduled date. If you cannot attend that date, it may be transferred one time to the next scheduled eligible PMC event. No cash refund is issued unless PMC expressly announces otherwise.
